Global Climate Change Solutions

Hi Everyone, Lucas here.  I wanted to share with you an interesting video on possible Global Climate Change Solutions.  It is a very interesting video, that also presents a very interesting moral dilemma, namely if we have solutions to Global Climate Change, will that only lead populations to believe they have less need to reduce their emissions.  Check it out and let me know what you think... lets discuss this in the comments thread,

Take Care out there, Lucas and the PEDAL Team.

  1. The one thing never spoken of in reference to the effects of global warming is the coming famines and food shortages that will kill the poor. Food prices are rising at a frightening rate even now, and global warming will continue to drive food into greater scarcity.
Every new piece of science, and every new product that promises to be eco-friendly and vows to reduce global warming is ultimately harmful if it allows people to 'pretend' that much is being done to combat global warming. Some are even put in place to obscure the real issues facing us. Geo-science is not a solution, but is merely a theory regarding the possibility of an unproven alternative approach to resolving a problem that people may continue to ignore.

  2. Good Point Paul, I believe that is what Mr. Keith is referring to in the later bits of his argument, that is, that even possible solutions can potentially lose any effect if society continues to use each advance in our own technology as an excuse (and right) to further ignore Global Warming.
I disagree with your statement that Geo-Science is not a solution however, though I readily agree that it is "merely a theory regarding the possibility of an unproven alternative approach to resolving a problem that people may continue to ignore."
The point is we should be looking at alternative solutions (including Geo-Science), and like you are, be skeptical, yet hopeful of the results they may yield. That still infers that it could be a solution to the problem, no matter what the barriers are that it must overcome (in this case many).
However, I think what you are feeling, and I (and probably many others are feeling) is bias towards a new possibility that we perceive to potentially negatively effect the general populations view on their own accountability towards Global Climate change, which, while it is a noble feeling, ultimately hinders further progress in alternative solutions, that we absolutely must be skeptically searching.

Thanks so much for you comment, I would love to further discuss this.

  3. I tend to think that any step forward is a positive thing, but never an excuse to sit still. We need to be thinking 'That was great, what next?'. Also, its great to buy legitimately "green" products, or support green technologies, but not as an excuse to continue over-consuming.
